Better working, with innovative sun protection and daylight management

Science

Protection from heat in the summer and the provision of daylight are becoming ever more important due to more frequent heatwaves, the fact that they can reduce cooling and lighting costs, and the increased demand for comfort.

Protection from heat in the summer and the provision of daylight are becoming ever more important due to more frequent heatwaves, the fact that they can reduce cooling and lighting costs, and the increased demand for comfort. In addition to the technical and energetic side, new research results clearly demonstrate the significant influence of natural daylight on the physical and mental health of humans. Medical studies have shown that daylight regulates the metabolism, suppresses the production of melatonin (sleeping hormone), activates “good-mood hormones” such as seratonin and noradrenaline, improves the immune system, controls the sleep-wake cycle and improves performance. The energy and construction aspects should therefore actually be pushed to the background. However, it is of course also valid to avoid the disturbing influences of glare and overheating in summer. The planning and implementation of sun and anti-glare protection, as well as the provision of daylight, therefore constitute some of the most demanding aspects of planning. They are however often underestimated by builders and planners.
